Photoshop and drawingtablet

I know who I am on the inside, and I know what I stand for.
You may curse me, alter my form, set the world against me, and
make those I swore to protect, believe that I am the monster,
instead of you...
But this does not change a thing. Be it by fang or by blade,
I will bring you and your taint crashing down to Earth!

I know who I am... The question is: do you?

I don't know why it took me so long to draw this picture, but it was certainly worth the time and effort. It was really good fun. I've been wanting to draw both Wolf Link and the Master Sword for quite a while now, so this way I got to do both.

Consider this picture an ode of sorts - not so much to the game itself, but rather to its concept. The Twilight Princess was not a bad game by any means, but it really could have been quite awesome if Nintendo had gone the extra mile. Shame really.

I used this reference picture when I drew the Master Sword.
I also used this picture as a partial reference for the pose, although it obviously isn't completely identical. ;)

OMG. o3o thats amazing!! Wolf Link looks soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo badass! I love your detail in everything, in the fur, the sword, even just his expression. The really cool thing is that he still looks like Link, his face has that same look that Link always had, you captured it brilliantly. This is definitely goin in the faves. :3

i loved twilight princess, though i do wish nintendo would have gone the extra mile as well.
it makes me mad that they didn't continue the transforming in the new game (skyward sword) but they continue to make the windwaker series (which i don't really like), which is definitely subpar.
anyways i love your drawing. not because it's a wolf and not because it's link, but because it's good art. :) i like the background.
the only problems i see are that his paws and tail seem kinda large.

Well, I can't say I dislike the Windwaker series. I quite enjoyed them, actually. But they were nowhere near as good as the N64 instalments (mostly because they rushed the first WW's release date and ended up scrapping about half of its intended content).

I had a big paw/tail phase. This is an older picture now, and I tend to draw a little differently these days. ;)

I'm not saying that the Windwaker series was terrible. i just didn't like the graphics as much, and, like you said, the N64 games were better (which is the case with a lot of games lately..).

o.O I love this picture!!! You drew wolf Link excellently, especially his fierce experssion and his paws, but adding such a beautifully rendered Master Sword just made the whole picture three times better! Plus your background is detailed yet appropriate for the picture and doesn't detract too much away from the subject. Well done! :D

And I agree with you completely. Twilight Princess was a great concept but poorly executed. Still love the game though :)

Thank you! I really just wanted an excuse to draw Wolf Link and the Master Sword in one and the same picture. :) And the background was really supposed to be detailed, yet non-distracting, so it's great that that worked out.

Yeah, there are so many things about TP, which are regretable. The concept was great, but needed to be expanded. And the weird thing was that very few people were actually scared in that game. Excluding the scene in which you first enter Kakariko, most people just weren't scared of the Twilight stuff, or the castle being walled up near the end of the game. Oh well...

And as for the non-concept stuff... I missed magic. Seriously. Where were the light arrows?? The fighting system was great, but the monsters were so slow and weak, that giving Link some super-duper-killer-sword-techniques was just... unfair... XD What I disliked the most though, was Hyrule Field. Pretty as it was, I really disliked how it was modelled. Sure there were some big open spaces, but it didn't feel as big as it really was. It was because it was split up into slow-loading portions... BORING! Again, I UNDERSTAND why they did it (some portions had to be made inaccesable at the beginning of the game), but it just wasn't any fun.

OoT's field felt a LOT larger. In fact, even MM's field felt bigger somehow. And this certainly wasn't true.

Still, TP is a good game, but it could have been fabultastic!

Agreed! Part of the problem was that TP was released on the Cube and Wii at the same time so some of the features had to be toned down. Plus... games just aren't what they used to be. More emphasis is on graphics and "pleasing everybody" these days. Everything is too easy. It's like they geared TP to a younger audience despite the teen rating for violence and such. TP could have been much better if they had made the characters more multi-dimensional, made the play areas larger, spent more time on the wolf form and what you can do with it, and also the twilight should have definitely been scarier as you said. I would have also liked to see Zelda and Ganondorf as "bigger" characters, ya know? More distinct personalities, bigger roles, more involvement in the plot! It's always bugged me how weak the characters are in the Legend of Zelda games.

I agree with all of that. I was also a little bit disappointed with the wolf's fighting abilities. Regular Link gets all these awesome blade techniques and items, and Wolf Link only bashes the B-buttons and as the admittedly powerful B-Hold attack. But that's it. (And he depends on Midna too much) BAsically he just had the basic OoT techniques, which are fine of course, but compared to Mister Bushido TP Link...

And Wolfie also never got a power boost, so eventually the Master Sword was a better weapon than your fangs. Fighting as a wolf was in most cases not as effective as fighting as regular Link.

And the characters were too shallow. I agree. Ganandorf in particular was very unsatisfying. And Zelda... She just confused me. Didn't she die when she saved Midna? Maybe I need to replay the game or something, but why the heck did she re-appear?

Why did Link have the mark of the Triforce at the beginning of the game, but why was nothing said about this in the game?

But basically, what I heard is that they rushed TP and had to scratch at least two dungeons. So I guess it's not so surprising that the game had its flaws.

Still, it's not as bad as WW. That game was rushed too and was supposed to have this underwater world of Hyrule, as well as the upper sea-world. If Nintendo had gone through with their original plans, WW as a game might have been twice large as it is now. That's what I heard anyway; it might not be true, but I think it does sound plausible. If Nintendo had gone through with it, I think WW could have been epic but they really needed a new Zelda to sell. XD
